My copy of Pearl Jam's latest release arrived in my mailbox on Friday from Ten Club. Since that date I've probably listened to the album 30 times. I brought it into the house and popped it into the CD player for the first listen and ever since then it's been locked in the CD player in my car. The car seems to be my current choice of preferred listening.
The CD/Album starts off with 4 great rocking songs. Especially the track above, Gonna See My Friend. There are one or two more rockers later on the CD. The rockers are my favorite, that's Pearl Jam to me. My favorites are Got Some and Supersonic. The CD follows with a couple of slower songs, almost in the "Into The Wild" type of song. These are good also.
For a lot more information I suggest you check out Two Feet Thick and all of their Pearl Jam information, including Ed's talk about Backspacer Track-by-Track.
I like the deal with Target. It still allows them to sell the CD on Ten Club and sell it with independent record stores. Some of which are getting the limited edition The Fixer single which Pearl Jam is using on their Twitter feed to give away. You need to be the first one to the store to get the single on vinyl. So far nothing in my area.
If you're a long time Pearl Jam fan, I think you'll like this CD. If you've never really heard Pearl Jam, you should like this. My son requests that I play it every time he's in the car and even wanted to me to blast it out for the Face-Off Festival this weekend.
But Pearl Jam is also celebrating because it finally made good on a longstanding desire to release its music on its own, without the aid of a major label. "Backspacer" will come out September 20 in the United States through a creative patchwork of deals with physical and digital retailers, the most prominent of which is a one-off, big-box exclusive with Target. Internationally, Universal Music is the label for the release.
The Target partnership threw fans for a loop when the news leaked in June. At first glance the move seems at odds with a band whose DIY, fan-first business ethic has set it against corporate behemoths like Ticketmaster and AT&T. But as details began to emerge, it became clear that Pearl Jam struck a deal that rewards the band and its fans as much as it does the stores that sell its music.
I may just have to buy two copies of this - one from ten club and another from target!
This is awesome, directed by Cameron Crowe
The sound quality sucks, but the video is so cool! You can download it for free from iTunes.
This is one of THE best interviews/articles I've seen in some time on my favorite band. It hits on every reason whey I like them so much. And it doesn't just talk about Eddie, it talks about all of them, the whole band. I'm telling you to read every word of it.
A few quotes -
"One of the reasons you're protecting yourself is because you've been forthcoming with your emotions," he says. "So you have to build a wall. And now people are driving into the wall. That's what fucks with your head. I felt like my brain was a whore and I was getting mindfucked."
When I ask Vedder what he'd do if Pearl Jam ended tomorrow his reply is dramatic, pragmatic and defiant.
"I'd take my guitar with me."
go to http://myspace.com/tenclub to hear Pearl Jam's new single "The Fixer".
I listened to it 3 times this morning when I was awake at 4:30 AM.
I really like the song. It sounds great, Eddie sounds good, the lyrics are nice, guitars, bass, and drums are all spot on. I can't wait to hear it a few more times and then hear the new album, and eventually catch them on tour for this one.
Pearl Jam performed a new track “Get Some” from their upcoming release, apparently titled Backspacer, last night on the first episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. The band did not appear in any skits, and performed the track below to end the show. Check out Conan even holding up some album or single artwork!

New Additions In The Pearl Jam Goods Store
More Ten-era merch available now in GOODS. Along with three classic designs, we’ve added an Alive onesie for those little Stick-kids:
- Music For Rhinos T- Super-cool design from the early days.
- Choices- You can only imagine how cool this kid is now that she’s all grown up. I think she made the right choice.
- Black T-shirt- No. Not just a black t-shirt, but a t-shirt designed to commemorate the song “Black”. Comes with the lyrics on the back. Black on Black. Kinda hard to read, but whatever, you know the words already.
- The Alive Onesie- We just couldn’t resist. Finally a onesie that says “I Got Shit” on the bum.
I can't decide between the Choices T-shirt and the Black T-shirt.
X-Large, please. They shrink.
And now for your listening pleasure, well okay, for my enjoyment are 3 different versions of the song Black from Pearl Jam's 10 album.
The original -
Did you know they were remastering Ten and that Brendan O'Brien was doing a remix?
And now the Remastered version -
And now, the remix from O'Brien (the album art on this one is my choice)
